A player's success at the slots isn't just restricted to knowing where the best machines in any given casino might be located; it is also knowing where the worst are situated as well. Luckily, since most casinos tend to follow the same general placement plans, this isn't as hard it sounds.
The following is a list of the areas the savvy player should avoid at all costs if he or she is looking for loose slots. While not every machine might be tight as your Great Aunt Fanny's knickers, bear in mind that the greatest concentration of the worst machines a casino has to offer can be found within these areas.
Near the casino entrances. Once casinos placed their loosest slots near the entrance, hoping to lure in customers. However, they discovered that the players near the entrance never bothered to venture any further into the casino, so they have moved mid-range and tight machines into the entrance areas.
Near the sports book/racing area. As those gamblers who bet on sports and racing tend to spend vast amounts of money, and rarely play slots themselves, the casinos do not want these profitable patrons distracted by the noise.
Near the ticket/show lines. The reason is that those waiting to see shows have, for the most part, finished whatever gambling they were going to do.
Near or surrounding the gaming tables. The slots near the gaming tables are invariably tight machines with a few mid-range machines thrown in as the casinos do not want slot players distracting the table players.
Aisles used by table players to get out of the pit area. Although table players might drop a few coins or tokens into a slot machine as they pass by, they are NOT slot players and probably wouldn't keep playing even if they DID hit a decent payout.
Areas that are visible/audible from the pit area. As table players care nothing about slots, they may become agitated by the distracting noise and commotion that is common with slot machine and quit the tables. If they become particularly disturbed, they might even leave the casino entirely and go play elsewhere.
